Family Based Immigration

Petitions by Family Members

 

Certain family members can petition for other family members.  A petition by a qualifying family member is the first step toward an immigrant visa or Lawful Permanent Residency (LPR Status or “Green Card”)

 

The following qualifying relatives can petition for family members

 

  • A United States Citizen (USC)  can petition for an immediate relative including a

    • Spouse

    • Child/ren (under the age of 21 and unmarried) or

    • Parent(s)

  • A United States Citizen (USC) can also petition for an

    • Unmarried son or daughter over the age of 21

    • Married son or daughter over the age of  21 or a

    • Brother or sister

  • A Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) can petition for a

    • Spouse

    • Unmarried child (under the age of 21) or

    • Unmarried son or daughter over the age of 21
